Last summer I had the chance to be a fellow at NYU’s ITP Camp: a hyper version of the two year masters program which focuses on how art and design collide with emerging technology. To get the fellowship, the idea I pitched was one I had been holding close to my chest for a long time: turn cold subjects, like programming languages, into warm characters. Vaguely like “School House Rock 2.0” - but more modern and stylized. When I would study for science and math tests in high school, my strategy was to always turn things into stories. I believe if you can relate to something emotionally, you can not only remember the subject matter better, but you can more easily develop a deep understanding of how things connect. There’s something about this kind of functional storytelling that I totally love.
